Never heard of Zeebs? Don’t know where it is? That is what several people have asked when first told about this business and we are here to enlighten you.

Zeebs is located at 243170 Rainbow Road but, when you look it up on Google maps all you see is the Rainbow Falls Road, and this is significantly incorrect. At this point in time the safest to reach Zeebs Performance Restoration is by driving out of Chestermere along Chestermere Boulevard which becomes 17th avenue, then turning right onto Range Road 284. It’s a lovely 80 km/hr cruise along this road until you intersect with 16th Avenue where you merge right and then turn right onto Rainbow Road. Drive down the dirt road, past the kennel, which you never knew was there either, to the driveway with 243170 out front and towering trees marching down either side of the driveway.

History of Zeebs:

Zeebs Performance Restoration INC. is a family based vehicle restoration, service shop also parts supply. The owner Zane Southgate has been into building Hot rods and classic cars since he was 14, when he started rebuilding a 1957 Chevy 2 door for his High school Graduation. Having a General Motors Grand Master Technician, and Automotive Technician Instructor for a father definitely helped with instilling the love of cars. Growing up going to the local stock car tracks in Lloydminster, Saskatoon, Rosetown, and Biggar, as a family to watch his Pops race and win, helped Zane to learn and understand suspension set up and engine building, along with performance and mileage tuning.

In 2001 after a few years as a service writer and an auto body apprentice, Zane took time to attend a Chassis Building and High Performance Engines program at Wyotech, based in Laramie, Wyoming. There he was able to refine some skills and acquire new skills to build and update suspensions for Street use and racing. Graduating with High Honors, he came back home to Saskatoon to take on a few small jobs and help his Pops, Brian with a project Henry J that was started for mom Debra. The family had been looking for a Henry J worthy and complete for over 20 years and finally tracked one down in 1999. The car was finished in 2002, three months after graduating Wyotech, and debuted at the Draggins Rod and Custom car show which led Zane to meet Ted Allan, the owner of Allan Rod and Custom Inc. in Chestermere. In December of 2002 Zane moved to Chestermere to work for Allan Rod and Custom as a junior fabricator. He recalls seeing a population sign of just over 5600 people in Chestermere when he moved here. Through the years he was able to have a hand in building a number of complete builds, and honing his skills. In 2008 the opportunity presented itself for Zane and his new wife Lani to purchase the location of the shop on Rainbow Road. Zeebs Performance Restoration Inc. opened doors at 243170 Rainbow Road, Chestermere on March 23, 2009.

The first full project through the shop was a very aggressive looking 1972 Chevelle built for a Calgary family delivered in 2010, along with finishing up a 1955 Chevy 2 door started at Allan Rod and Custom. And then in 2013 delivered a classy 1935 Chevy truck was delivered as the second complete build. With a number of suspension and brake upgrades, and along with engine and transmission upgrades or swaps always underway; Zeebs also provides rust repair and custom panel fabrication.

Zeebs also builds custom headers and exhaust, and has recently begun to offering mileage and performance tuning on 2000 and up GM trucks and Corvettes, with gains as high as 37 MPG highway on a 2012 Chevy truck. Zeebs Performance is the Proud Sponsor and host of the Battle of the Techs engine assembly race held at the annual World of Wheels in Calgary, along with some presentations at local area outdoor car shows, this summer we held events at the Three Hills Cruise weekend, Beisekers Show and Shine, Moose Jaw Show and Shine and just attended the Airdrie Summer Classic car show.

Battle of the Techs is a timed engine assembly race, running two teams of two against each other and the clock, with a requirement of a 5 second hands free run time. There have been a mix of teams, from two guys, coed and two gals run this event in an average of 10 and a half minutes. No previous mechanical experience required to participate as the judges also teach you the process, this helps anybody taking part understand the basic mechanical function of any engine their cars today.  Battle of the Techs is also available as a club challenge as a day event.

Zeebs has also been commissioned by the Chestermere Historical Society to rebuild the original 1952 Ford, Chestermere Cabin Owners Fire truck/ water hauler, with creative license to appear as a functional Fire truck could have been in the day. 12 years after first moving to Chestermere, Zane and the crew at Zeebs look forward to a long lasting relationship with the town and its residents.
