September 2014 when the first shovels cracked the earth to commence the building of Chestermeres first hotel, it was hard to image the finished project. But now, 18 months later, the Best Western Plus Chestermere is open and has guests filling the rooms.
Located at 200 Marina Drive, this beautiful hotel fits right in with the quaint architecture that makes Chestermere unique. A gorgeous and intimate lobby with a cozy fireplace, stunning rock work and open plan makes you feel welcome from the first step inside.
General Manager, Natalie Szankar, took me on a tour of the new hotel and says that they are so excited and have been very welcomed by the community. “Wednesday afternoon around 2pm we were officially open and we had two walk ins that night and then the next afternoon we had another walk in”.
The hotel already has plenty of bookings as GM Szankar explained, “What we did is with Best Western we did a pre-booking. So before we opened we had 225 room nights already sold. We started from April 1st to the end of year of selling rooms already. Our first reservation that was pre-booked is for Monday. So we have lots of room nights sold already”.
To get a good read on where guests are coming from and why they’re staying at the hotel, Szankar says they ask guests when they book or when they check in why they’re in Chestermere which will be a great tool to see who is using the hotel. “Once people realize how close Chestermere is to Calgary, they’ll realize that it’s just as easy to stay here as it is to stay in Calgary – so they’ll choose Chestermere”, explained Szankar.
This pet friendly hotel has 80 rooms, and employees around 18 staff that cover things like front desk, maintenance and housekeeping. The hotel also has a business centre, two meeting rooms, guest’s laundry services, gym, pool and complimentary breakfast for all guests. “Anyone who needs meeting space, we have two choices for meeting rooms”, explains Szankar, “I know that there are a lot of businesses in town that have clients coming in and need a place to hold a meeting, so they can call us and book”.
The pool is for hotel guests only but will be tied into a birthday package where you have use of the smaller meeting room and pool access for your party.
Szankar also says that the hotel will be holding an official Grand Opening likely in June and they invite the public to come and check out Chestermeres first hotel.
